Acceptable suffering?
Having been through a public high school, a fair number of team sports, working as a dogs-body several kitchens and in a bank, six years of seminary and survived several university degrees, I have gritted my teeth through many unpleasant and unnecessary experiences.
I am not talking here about the general unpleasantness of hard work, of being challenged to rise to challenge or deal with the hum drum of boorish, small minded bullies that seem to occupy a disproportionately high percentage of middle management roles. I am referring to those tedious, painful and sometimes distressing experiences almost everyone has to endure as they start out in a certain place, programme or formation.
