Attempting to enforce morality via Internet filtering was always going to be a publicity stunt which costs millions and did nothing more than severely inconvenience anyone attempting to remain within the boundaries of the ridiculous laws proposed. Experience has shown that criminals and even mildly intelligent school children will sidestep Internet filtering with an ease that is frightening, leaving the rest of us labouring with Internet speeds that have been proven by the governments own testing to limit performance to 8% of the currently available hardware and is clearly unable to keep up with the rapidly developing technology.

I know, Costello has nothing to do with this particular Liberal Party leadership spill, but I couldn't resist the title! :P

I don't intend to post on the political implications behind the rise of Tony Abbot as leader of the Liberal party today. I think he is a far better option than his predecessor, but whether the party is disciplined enough to maximise his potential rather than make him yet another 'et tu' candidate is yet to be seen.
