Attempting to enforce morality via Internet filtering was always going to be a publicity stunt which costs millions and did nothing more than severely inconvenience anyone attempting to remain within the boundaries of the ridiculous laws proposed. Experience has shown that criminals and even mildly intelligent school children will sidestep Internet filtering with an ease that is frightening, leaving the rest of us labouring with Internet speeds that have been proven by the governments own testing to limit performance to 8% of the currently available hardware and is clearly unable to keep up with the rapidly developing technology.

Here is one video we won't be seeing played at Copenhagen

John Lennon on the subject of overpopulation.

I know, Costello has nothing to do with this particular Liberal Party leadership spill, but I couldn't resist the title! :P

I don't intend to post on the political implications behind the rise of Tony Abbot as leader of the Liberal party today. I think he is a far better option than his predecessor, but whether the party is disciplined enough to maximise his potential rather than make him yet another 'et tu' candidate is yet to be seen.

After enduring almost a week of the leftist militia (i.e.

Matt Maher’s fans have seen his music mature from simple modern arrangements of liturgical elements into the simply the best contemporary Catholic artist on the market.

If you are a Catholic and haven’t hear the name Matt Maher yet, crawl out from whichever rock you’ve been living under and get a load of this. Matt is back, and his new CD Alive Again is even better than the last!

Alive Again takes Matt’s polished and passionate style up another notch lyrically, musically and professionally.

Popple is an acoustic humor rock band made of two Catholic guys, Dan and Kyle. So says the band’s official website. Like all descriptions of the band it fails to capture the random brilliance in the genius of a joyful and uniquely Catholic approach to life expressed in a variety of musical styles.

Asked what his views were on giving up his title as bishop, [Anglican] Bishop Broadhurst said:

“Who cares. Soon I’ll be in a wooden box in front of the altar. What matters is the bigger picture. God matters, the truth matters. We as individuals don’t matter.

From Pope Benedict XVI via Zenit this very day

"Scripture being only one thing starting from the one People of God, which has been its bearer throughout history, consequently to read Scripture as a unit means to read it from the Church as from its vital place, and to regard the faith of the Church as the real key to interpretation.

I usually hate borrowing stuff but the DGD over at SciFi referred his readers to one of Joss Whedon's funniest efforts. The content of this musical-superhero spoof was the best laugh I've had in a very long time. This probably reveals more about my sorry lack of amusement lately than Whedon's skills, but it is worth a look nonetheless.

For the geeky among us it stars Neil Patrick Harris (a.k.a. Dougie Howser), Nathan Fillion (a.k.a.

It's been a while since I posted anything here. I still have the urge to post. Things I see, little moments at work, stupid stories on the radio and so on prompt me to express my response somewhere. I lost a lot of confidence in expressing myself publicly of late and so usually pull up short before actually posting anything.

The fact that I have been almost consumed with detailed and soul destroying government red-tape has not been helpful either.

As usual, CMR puts a finger right on the pulse with this gem.

I am out somewhere with the kids and someone, typically another mother, will mosey on up and ask me with a disbelieving look "are they all yours?" The snark rolodex then whirs into frenetic motion trying to find just the right response. I could use Matt's line about them actually being hitchhikers I picked up because I thought they looked so darn much like the others.

Married with eight children, I read for work and recreation which results in the current combination of G.K. Chesterton, Orson Scott Card and Terry Pratchet in my backpack. I'm not always certain which is work and which is recreation!
