Watching the worlds financial house of cards tumble this week has been alarming, but not nearly so alarming and seeing our government throw over 10 BILLION dollars at the problem, with most of the attention going to handouts which won't actually do anything positive. In fact, handing huge sums of money out to people in the hope they spend it, and thus increase consumer confidence and spending, is more likely to perpetuate the problem than solve it.

For the record, I am not complaining about this because I missed a handout. I have six children. The government is handing parents about $1000 for each dependant child this Christmas. You do the math!

The money has had one noticeable effect.

I wanted to comment on the State Parliament decision in my old home state but I find myself choking up as soon as I try to compose a sentence.

The laws were passed through the Lower House of Parliament and now the Upper House too, but not without some amendments having been voted in. These amendments now go back to the Lower House to be debated and voted on.

Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths, and territories (except Kansas, which she does not fancy).

Your new Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, will appoint a Governor for America without the need for further elections. Congress and the Senate will be disbanded.

Married with eight children, I read for work and recreation which results in the current combination of G.K. Chesterton, Orson Scott Card and Terry Pratchet in my backpack. I'm not always certain which is work and which is recreation!
